The Asia and the Pacific Sustainable Development Goals Progress Report 2021 comes at a time when the impacts of the pandemic have already been felt across the economic, social and environmental dimensions of development.
This year’s report provides an update on progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Asia and the Pacific based on data that pre-date the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it is too soon to see the impact of the pandemic in national data sources, this report provides a valuable benchmark as we take stock even in times of great change. Even before the pandemic, the Asia-Pacific region was not on track to meet any of the SDGs by 2030. Progress in our diverse subregions continues to be uneven and there are troubling signs of stagnation and regression, particularly on environment-related goals.
