The new date has been decided by the Invictus Games Foundation and the Dutch Organizing Committee, in consultation with the municipality of The Hague, the participating nations and partners.

FIFTH EDITION IN THE HAGUE

The Invictus Games is an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. The Games uses the power of sport to drive recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate wider understanding and respect for those who serve or have served their country. Since the inaugural Invictus Games in London in 2014, the following Invictus Games have been held in Orlando (2016), Toronto (2017) and Sydney (2018).

The fifth Invictus Games, which will still be referred to as the Invictus Games The Hague 2020, will thus now be held in The Hague from April 16-22, 2022 with more than 500 participants from 20 countries participating in ten adaptive sports events. In the plans, the safety and well-being of the participants always comes first, with a focus on their recovery.

Wouter Bakker, Team Captain for the Dutch Team: “We look forward to experiencing the Games in 2022 as they were meant to be: with friends & family and with the support of the public from the stands. Until then, we will continue to do our best to be fit and prepared, we will keep moving and keep the spirit of the Invictus Games. We look forward to seeing all participants and spectators in good health in The Hague in April 2022. ”

Mart de Kruif, chairman of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020, said: “We still strive to deliver a safe, surprising and impactful Games. It looks like this should be possible in 2022, and we look forward to hosting them. It was of course a big disappointment that the Invictus Games could not take place, but also understandable in the current situation. All the hard work and efforts of the organization and our partners are very valuable and form a good basis for an even more beautiful event in 2022. As an organization we also want to show our own resilience and the Invictus Spirit. Now that we have a date to focus on, we and the competitors can set new goals and our Invictus family will show its strength to the world in 2022.”

HEARTWARMING SUPPORT

Thanks to the support of partners and suppliers, the Organizing Committee can continue to support the recovery of international wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. The entire Invictus Family is very grateful for the continuous support of all involved in organizing the Invictus Games The Hague 2020. The sponsors and partners did not have to think long about a possible restart and all have extended their support through to 2022.

Conny Wenting, CEO of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020, said: “Thanks to many stakeholders, we managed to find a new date in 2022. The municipality of The Hague warmly welcomes us to the Zuiderpark, in the midst of a busy schedule with other postponed events. We are grateful for the support of our founding, presenting partner and all sponsors, this gives us the motivation and a lot of confidence that we can realize an event with an enormous impact and charisma in 2022 even under the current circumstances.”
