In partnership with Microsoft’s Office of Responsible AI, the Strategic Foresight Hub at Stimson established a fellowship program designed to convene a diverse group of stakeholders to examine AI applications and evaluate their impacts in developing countries. Together, Fellows seek to understand how AI-related harms and benefits may manifest themselves in various social, cultural, economic, and environmental contexts, and identify technological as well as regulatory solutions that might help mitigate risks and maximize opportunities.
Fellowship recipients are participating in a series of structured virtual discussions that create space for the meaningful exchange of best practices, build an expert community of diverse stakeholders, and develop strategic insights to support the responsible development and use of AI in developing countries. Fellows are further awarded a stipend and are empowered to present their ideas while actively contributing to solving challenges on the cutting edge of AI. Summaries of the conversations as well as final video contributions are shared with the public in order to shine light on the issues at hand, present sophisticated proposals to harness the benefits of AI applications, and share key insights about the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence.
