Celebration of world Social Work day 2014
A Little step to a social change:
Today 18th March , we students and faculties of Nepal School of Social work ( kadambari Memorial college and Nepal college of development Studies ) were wondering how our community engagement program , the cleaning of Dhobikhola river will turn up. Our city Kathmandu is very busy with their own engagements. Some organization and colleges we called for the campaign were not sure whether they should come to such program. The people of the Budha Nagar community were reluctant to join the program.
Around 10 am , we heard a many steps of young feet coming to the venue, the premises of Butwal power company. They were the wonderful youth of Rose Bud School. Their overwhelming participation made our day. We also had a very good participation from the representative from the ward police station, Butwal power company, Ward office and the chief of Kathmandu metropolitan city office.
We started the program with a small game with the students of Rose bud School and begin sharing about the cleaning campaign.
We Kadambari memorial college and Nepal college of development studies have just moved to Budha nagar. We run two social science bachelor degree courses BSW and BASWRD. As our courses equip our students to work with the community, we have started college’s own program called COLLEGE WITH COMMUNITY (CWC) . Our students are placed in the program of CWC. They develop the concept paper, develop the program and implement . This will help them to work in the real life situation to translate their theories into practice.
Dhobikhola cleaning campaign is one of CWC project. We have been assigned as a local coordinator from Kathmandu municipal city office (KMC) for the same purpose . We will be working closely with the KMC and the community to clean the river of our community. We will be registering volunteers and carry out the cleaning campaign on each Saturday 8-10 am every Saturday.
Today was the warming up session. We hope , in coming days, we will be having more hands to join our initiative. We are happy to put a first step to our long journey. Hats off to Students of Nepal school of social work and Rose bud !
