The Extinction or Regeneration conference, to be held in London on 11 and 12 of May 2023, will offer individuals, organisations, companies and other experts the opportunity to present solutions for transforming our global food and farming systems for better human, animal and planetary health.

Hosted as a hybrid meeting – at the QEII Conference Centre in London, and online – this major international conference will include plenary sessions with inspirational speakers, roundtable discussions, networking and facilitated action workshops to catalyse collaboration and change.

Bringing together diverse interests – including environment, public health, food business, food policy, conservation, finance and animal welfare – the programme will enable attendees to explore, share, and build momentum behind existing and new solutions. From lobbying for change in the worlds of global politics and finance to demonstrating efficient and nature-positive solutions… all methods for transformation are on the table.

The Extinction or Regeneration Conference will provide a platform for experts across the globe to share solutions for how we can transform our food and farming systems for better human, animal and planetary health. We need a whole food system approach to providing sufficient nutritious food for everyone. This must remain within the safe operating space of all nine planetary boundaries whilst protecting wild and domestic animals and restoring soils, oceans, forests and biodiversity.

A number of IDS experts will present at the event, including IDS Director Melissa Leach. IDS will run a session exploring how human-animal interactions are changing in part due to agricultural food systems, as well as a session exploring inequities in food systems, drawing on research from the Food Equity Centre.

Other speakers will include ecologist and author Carl Safina, who runs the non-profit Safina Center in the US; world-renowned scholar, environmental activist and author Dr Vandana Shiva and bestselling author and filmmaker Professor Raj Patel.

Please see the conference website for details of the speakers and draft programme.
