Among other things, the report argues that nature is vital to the right to livelihoods, health and culture, but that nature is also essential to sustainable economic growth in the region.

The findings and recommendations outlined by the report are based on both a literature review and an expert interview programme conducted by Dalberg Group between June and December 2023. This report is produced by UNDP’s Business and Human Rights in Asia programme, in partnership with the European Union (EU).



  • Technical and advisory support to governments to facilitate the development of policies and legislation to promote responsible business practices and corporate accountability
  • Regional peer learning, awareness raising and capacity building on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
  • Communication and public diplomacy efforts to build public support of the business and human rights agenda
  • Promotion of access to remedy to ensure rights-based solutions and prevent future human rights abuses
  • Knowledge sharing to foster action addressing the adverse role of business operations on the environment, climate and human rights
