At the 15th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), held in Montreal, Canada in December 2022, the Parties to the Convention adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) along with other important decisions.

The GBF sets out an ambitious plan to implement broad-based action to bring about a transformation in our societies’ relationship with biodiversity by 2030, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals, and ensure that, by 2050, the shared vision of living in harmony with nature is fulfilled.

This side event will focus on highlighting successful examples of Asia-Pacific countries' efforts for accelerating their efforts towards SDGs (e.g. climate change, poverty alleviation and partnerships) through applying an integrated approach in implementing the GBF.

Key Questions and Outcomes This side event will examine the following key guiding questions: 1. Question 1: What are examples or highlights of specific initiatives and practical tools/approaches being implemented to contribute to the GBF Goals and Targets which are also contributing to achieving specific SDGs?? 2. Question 2: What are key remaining challenges, needs and priorities in terms of aligning GBF implementation and achieving the SDGs? 3. Question 3: What do you require in terms of collective support from UN and other partners and opportunities for regional collaboration? Bringing together a diverse panel, this side event aims to draw attention to the importance of the linkage between the implementation of the GBF and achieving the SDGs. The expected outcome of the side event is enhanced knowledge of participants on initiatives, practical tools and approaches that can be used in ensuring that the GBF is implemented in an integrated manner, which contributes towards the achievements of SDGs.
