These commitments will drive forward the achievement of a just, inclusive energy transition as set out in the Global Roadmap for Accelerated SDG 7 Action, including 2025 and 2030 milestones, delivered by the Secretary-General as a forward-looking outcome summary of the Dialogue. It also calls for strengthened efforts by the UN System supported by UN-Energy, including the establishment of a global multi-stakeholder Energy Compact Action Network, towards the achievement of the SDGs and net-zero emissions.

Summary

This session will provide an overview of the growing membership of the Gender and Energy Compact and how it aims to accelerate action for women to have equal opportunity to lead, participate in and benefit from a just, sustainable and inclusive energy transition and also to have equal access to and control over sustainable energy products and services.

Description

The Energy Compact Action Network, a new multi-stakeholder mechanism supported by UN-Energy, will bring together governments, businesses and other civil society partners who have committed to Energy Compacts, in order to direct investment, know-how and resources to help achieve the commitments made.

The launch event will feature several new or expanded coalitions that will tackle challenges of energy access, clean cooking and energy transition in countries that have put forward Energy Compacts. The Gender and Energy Compact will be one of these multi-stakeholder coalitions that will be featured to show how this compact will catalyze action towards gender equality and women's empowerment to accelerate a just, inclusive and sustainable energy transition.

UN-Energy is the United Nations' mechanism for inter-agency collaboration in the field of energy.

UN-Energy was established by the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) in 2004 as the United Nations ‘mechanism for inter-agency collaboration in the field of energy.

To accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement, countries increasingly adopt sustainable energy solutions, embarking on an energy transition by creating the enabling conditions that catalyse public and private investment to scale-up action on energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency. By making their energy sectors more sustainable, their economies can follow a more equitable growth path, contributing to poverty eradication while combating climate change and increasing their resilience.
