Tracking the evolution of idea

After understanding the steps in which an idea gets evolves, it becomes easier to know where do we lie or what is status of the concept. Having known this helps in maintaining the focus for the initiator (individual or organization). Because most of the time, we have seen an idea taking a lot more time than expected or some time there is pre-mature celebration. Being able to pinpoint where the idea is now and what the steps are which need to be carried forward, proves that steering is still in control. While saying that, one should however take deep notice of activities happening around the concept. In addition the observer shouldn’t be obsessed in bringing the idea into track anyhow. It would be wise to understand why it derailed or strength of the factor making thus happening. Sometimes the factor is not a bane but rather boon. In case we identified the positive side of the affecting factor, it is necessary to mark the present status of the idea. Thenceforth, other steps need to be devised as it shifts the paradigm in which an idea would evolve.

While building these steps, it’s wise to have some assumptions which would also signal that the process is going well and it has reached at some specific point. For example: Let’s talk about an idea that advocates for menstrual hygiene. It would mostly start by generating awareness either amongst women group, in classroom of targeted group of girls or simply by announcing in the community through mike; any technique can be used. But after that, what? Now the assumption can be kept as some ladies would step ahead to know more about the issue or would even ask for sanitary napkins. However, due to some reason no one seems to come and discuss about it. This means there is some factor (one out of many possibilities we can think right now) which is keeping them from expressing. As we didn’t achieve according to the assumption we made, this means a new strategy needs to be devised to pump the process at least to the level we assumed.

What would I do if I were stuck in the same place? First since there are numerous possibilities of the factors which might be affecting, I would try to understand the reason behind it. Let’s say if it is found that they were finding it very odd to come in public, then a new doorway has to be created. Now how it can be done depends completely on the type of socio-economic dynamics the society carries. After clearing the obstacle the process soon resumes and flows in the same or little distorted route; but ultimately directing towards the goal.

For an organization, especially one that works in phase wise condition needs to incorporate the learning about level of social changes. It’s because there is high chance of not being able to reach the ultimate goal by having some stipulated budget and time. Sometimes the goal is even achieved prior to the deadline. The idea has its own speed of getting institutionalized and speed of society also plays role simultaneously. When the goal is not achieved due to time or budget constraint, it would be best to mark the level in which idea has worked and at least bring it to the end of any of the five steps, so that it would easier to start from next step when next phase comes in after some time.

The amazing part of understanding the process of evolution is that it doesn’t keep people worrying about the success of the idea. Rather, it develops keen observational skill and hone critical thinking ability. Not only that, it helps in speculating time and even budget that is required.
