Govt move to bar double amputee from climbing Everest challenged at Supreme Court (The Himalayan Times)

A case has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding annulment of a provision of the country’s mountaineering expedition regulation that bars double amputee and blind persons from attempting to climb mountains including Mt Everest. If the Supreme Court will upheld the request, Hari Budha Magar will be able to climb the Everest.

Maldives: Release peaceful protestors immediately and unconditionally

People have a right to protest peacefully and journalists have a right to document and report on these protests freely and without fear. The state of emergency cannot be used to justify such a crackdown on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

Having worked in the education sector of Nepal for more than three decades, Mr. Shrestha is a familiar name in sector. In the interview he talks about his birth and upbringing in Bandipur, his work in the education sector, his reflections on life lived and even why people should visit Bandipur--his beloved place.

Iran: Dozens of women ill-treated and at risk of long jail terms for peacefully protesting compulsory veiling

More than 35 women have been violently attacked and arrested in Tehran alone since December 2017 for taking part in ongoing peaceful protests against the discriminatory and abusive practice of compulsory veiling.

CANADA's Feminist International Assistance Policy gets a budget boost

Yesterday the Canadian Federal Government released its new budget that is very gender equality focused. Among different initiatives, there is a boost for the Feminist International Assistance Policy. The increase will be of $2B over 5 years.

Asia-Pacific countries commit to empower rural women and girls at high-level UN forum

Ministers and senior government representatives from Asia and the Pacific on Friday committed to ensuring greater empowerment of rural women and girls to improve their standard of living, food security and livelihoods. The pledge was made at the regional consultation for the 62nd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) held in Bangkok.

UN launches 24-hour hotline for staff to report sexual harassment
