Nairobi, 12 August 2026 – During nearly three weeks of negotiations in the Kenyan capital, Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity made progress in discussions on a wide range of scientific, technical, and implementation issues, thus paving the way for decisive intergovernmental negotiations at the 2026 United Nations Biodiversity Conference, including COP 17 in Yerevan.

In a year marked by conflict, democratic pressure, climate disruption and rapid technological change, the Danish Institute for Human Rights continued to work with partners around the world to protect and advance human rights in practice.

A Peruvian law in force since April 2025 lets the government vet the work of any media outlet or civil society organisation that receives foreign funding, requiring official approval before a project can begin and barring the use of that funding to sue the state.
