The European Commission is charting the path to reach the goal of making the European Union climate neutral by 2050. It recommends a 90% net greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 2040 compared to 1990 levels, which is in line with recent scientific advice and the EU’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.

Irene Khan, the United Nations expert on freedom of expression, concluded her 10-day visit to the Philippines on February 2 by urging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to denounce the practice of “red-tagging” and disband the National Task Force on Local Communist Armed Conflict.

WORLD RESTORATION FLAGSHIPS

On 13 February - in the lead-up to the sixth UN Environment Assembly - the UN will announce seven new World Restoration Flagships. Stay tuned! Countries have already promised to restore 1 billion hectares – an area larger than China – as part of international climate, nature, and land goals. However, little is known about the progress or quality of this restoration.

The Garment Me Too campaign is a transformative vision of work that centers the dignity and economic security of women workers.

The purpose of the campaign is to target the supply chains of garment apparel brands in order to bring brands and their suppliers to the table with supplier unions to bargain and create changes on production lines at the industrial level as well as along global supply chains.
