The process, very ambitious and met with skepticism is called the Khartoum Process. Lohri is the Harvest festival of  Punjab as well as Haryana too which is famously known as Breadbasket state of  India. Thus, people residing in Punjab attach a great significance to Lohri. In Punjab, wheat is the main winter crop, which is sown in October and harvested in March or April. In January, the fields come up with the promise of a golden harvest, and farmers celebrate Lohri during this rest period before the cutting and gathering of crops.

Iraqi Yazidi Islamic State survivors and activists Nadia Murad and Lamiya Aji Bashar receive the EU Parliament’s 2016 Sakharov Prize during a ceremony in Strasbourg on Tuesday 13 December. After escaping sexual enslavement by Islamic State they both became spokespeople for women affected by the terrorist group's campaign of sexual violence and for the persecuted Yazidi minority
