Have you measured or collected data on the impact of volunteering during Covid-19 as part of your research or practice work? We’re interested in the impact on both individual and collective (or community) wellbeing.
What is happening?
The evidence scan forms part of a wider project which aims to explore the relationship between volunteering and wellbeing in Wales, with particular focus on volunteering during the pandemic. There are two elements to this project:
- Rapid evidence review on volunteering and wellbeing
- Analysis of case studies on volunteering and wellbeing during the pandemic
What information are we looking for?
We are looking for evidence from academic and grey literature, from any type of study design (e.g. quantitative, mixed methods, evaluations, economic studies) from all sectors. Studies should focus on the impact of volunteering on individual or collective wellbeing, using the following criteria:
- Any form of volunteering – ‘formal’ (i.e. through organisations) to ‘informal’ or reciprocal help (e.g. mutual aid)
- Either individual or collective wellbeing – you may have been exploring the impact on any of the following, or similar outcomes: mental wellbeing/ mental health, self-esteem and self-efficacy, individual or community resilience, social relationships and networks, social cohesion, sense of belonging, happiness, quality of life, life satisfaction, anxiety, etc.
- Published in 2020 or 2021, or unpublished data collected during the pandemic
- Volunteering among adults and/or young people
- Volunteering among adults and/or young people
- We are particularly interested in evidence from Wales, but welcome submissions based on evidence collected elsewhere, particularly from across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
Please send your evidence submission by Wednesday 10th March to research@youngfoundation.org with the subject header ‘Volunteering and wellbeing’. Thank you for your help.
Everyone who submits information will receive a copy of the final report. By submitting evidence to this call, you agree that The Young Foundation can share your contact details with the project consortium (see below) for the purposes of sharing the final report. If you do not wish your details to be shared, please note this in your email along with your submission. If you don’t have evidence to submit, but would like a copy of the report, please email info@wcpp.org.uk.
Who is leading and funding the project?
The project is led by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action in partnership with the Wales Centre for Public Policy and the Welsh Local Government Association and funded by the Welsh Government’s Coronavirus Recovery Grant for Volunteering 2020/21. The project will support the work of the Third Sector Partnership Council’s Covid recovery sub-group, which will inform the Welsh Government’s work on enabling the voluntary sector and volunteering to contribute to a recovery that supports the wellbeing goals in the Well-being of Future Generations Act (2015).
