Across more than 20 countries, the Danish Institute for Human Rights worked alongside National Human Rights Institutions, public authorities, civil society organisations, universities and communities to strengthen human rights systems and improve access to justice. From supporting children in conflict with the law in Uganda and strengthening legal aid systems in Zambia, to protecting human rights defenders in Kenya and Nepal, our partnerships helped turn human rights principles into tangible results for people and communities.
The report also illustrates how human rights must remain central to emerging global challenges. In 2025, we supported efforts to embed human rights in climate action, responsible business conduct, migration governance and digital technologies. Whether working with climate-affected communities in Africa and Latin America, contributing to new global principles for digital rights, or engaging with EU corporate sustainability legislation, our focus remained the same: ensuring that people’s rights are protected as societies adapt to change.
At a time when international norms and democratic institutions face increasing pressure, the stories in this report demonstrate the value of persistent engagement, trusted partnerships and strong institutions. They show that progress is still possible even in fragile and complex environments, and that protecting human rights remains essential for building resilient, just and sustainable societies.
