How can higher education contribute to tackling today’s complex challenges?

In this wide-ranging book, Anke Schwittay argues that, in order to inspire and equip students to generate better responses to global challenges, we need a pedagogy that develops their imagination, creativity, emotional sensibilities and practical capabilities.

Schwittay proposes a critical-creative pedagogy that incorporates design-based activities, experiential teaching, serious play and future-oriented practices. Crucially, she demonstrates the importance of moving beyond analysing limitations to working towards alternatives for more equitable, just and sustainable futures.

Presenting concrete ideas for the reimagination of higher education, this book is an essential read for both educators and students in any field studying global challenges.

Higher Education students today will graduate into an uncertain world, facing highly complex global challenges. In her new book, ‘Creative Universities', Anke Schwittay, Senior Lecturer in Global Studies at University of Sussex, explores how education and teaching need to adapt, and how a re-imagining of ‘creative universities’ can ensure graduates are better able to envision, design and create novel responses to social, economic and ecological challenges and work towards alternative futures.

Join Anke Schwittay and Craig Hammond (Lecturer in Education and Liverpool John Moores University) as they discuss topics such as critical-creative pedagogy, critical hope, whole-person learning, and design and arts methods, and demonstrate how bell hooks’ view of the classroom is the most radical space of possibility in the academy can become a reality.

The book will be available at 50% discount for those who attended the launch event.

This event will be recorded.
