Forum is proud to join with IAVE, IFRC, the Volunteer Groups Alliance, and UNICEF Generation Unlimited to develop a Call to Action for the Future of Volunteering, as part of the 2026 International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.
Today, we are pleased to share the first step on this journey – a Challenge Paper that explores recent trends in volunteering worldwide and examines how key stakeholders – governments, organisations, businesses, and communities – can foster a more supportive environment for volunteering.
Over the coming weeks, we will be launching a global survey and a series of online and in-person dialogues to hear directly from volunteers and the wider volunteering community about the change needed to unlock the full potential of volunteering for sustainable development. The insights gathered through this global consultation will inform a Call to Action to be launched during on International Volunteer Day in December 2025, aiming to inspire real commitments and shifts in policy and practice to support volunteering worldwide.
Forum members and partners are encouraged to actively engage in shaping and supporting the Call to Action. Opportunities to contribute to consultations and joint initiatives will be announced in the coming weeks.
