“It's my personal motto that art is more than just a tool for entertainment. It's a strong tool, a strong medium and platform for social change, if channelled properly and effectively,” said Gift Chikere.

Chikere is a human rights activist who uses poetry, music and theater to advocate for social justice. She is a member of the Youth Advisory Board, a 12-member group that provides input on the development and dissemination of learning resources on human rights knowledge, skills and advocacy.

In this episode of the UN Human Rights Podcast, Chikere -- along with fellow board members Hadil Abuzaid, Sicelo Shange, Max Genin and Constance Luk – give insight into what motivates them to push boundaries, call for action and stand up for human rights.

“These challenges made me want to take action and stand up for our rights,” said Abuzaid. “With my understanding of human rights, I dream of seeing Palestinian youth enjoy the same opportunities as young people around the world. This is what keeps me motivated to continue my work.”
