As we continue to face multiple challenges from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the way organisations plan to celebrate The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) may be markedly different. Nonetheless, many sport and development actors continue to serve their communities against all the odds and have pivoted their work to contribute to response efforts.
Sport activities and events have been particularly affected by the necessary health measures and restrictions imposed in countries around the world. Despite this challenge, IDSDP remains a great opportunity for the sport and development community to showcase the ways sport has been helping countries, communities, and individuals to navigate these challenging times and build back better.
Share your IDSDP plans
As such we are calling for organisations to share their plans and messages for IDSDP. Feel free to be creative in your submission and you may consider some of the following questions and themes:
- What (if anything) are you planning to do for IDSDP this year?
- Are you going to adjust activities due to the pandemic? If so, how? (Please feel free to provide examples of adaptation and innovation.)
- Are there specific issues you will be tackling or advocating for given the current crisis?
- What do you think are the key priorities that need to be highlighted this IDSDP?
Key issues and priorities could include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The need to ensure continued and increased investment in sport and development
- The need to better recognise sport within the relief, response and recovery efforts
- The need to continue to make the case for the use of sport in development
- Increased partnerships and collaboration between sport and public health actors
- A greater role for sport and development within public policy and government
