The EU was created to overcome an outdated form of geopolitics. Nationalism and narrowly defined national interests should give way to a new world order in which multilateralism and win-win approaches would replace traditional power politics.

At the moment, however, we are seeing a return to great power politics around the world, and in response to this, many in Europe are calling for a “geo-economic commission” and an EU that can act as a great power as well.

Is there a risk that this transformation causes the EU to lose its "soul" and its identity? How can the EU assert itself in a more antagonistic world while remaining true to its basic values?
How does green foreign policy meet this challenge? Is a changing EU compatible with green values? And in what way can the Green Party relate to the concept of European strategic sovereignty?

An Online-Event with (among others):

  • Annalena Baerbock, Chairwoman of the German Green Party, Berlin
  • Florence Gaub, European Union Institute for Security Studies, Paris
