Oxfam is proposing two things that the G20 and other leaders can do now: develop a global public health plan and emergency response to tackle the disease head on; and create an economic rescue plan to pay for the huge increase in public health and to help ordinary people cope with the huge economic costs precipitated by this virus.

With the usual Scandinavian countries at the top ( Norway 1st, Finland 2nd, Denmark 3rd, Sweden 4th) the top ten also see interesting surprises like Jamaica (6th), Costa Rica (7th). Malaysia and Maldives are the best improved countries thanks to the changes ( reversed at least for Malaysia) in their governments over 2019. Nepal is at 112th position.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme have launched a new initiative: the Africa Women Health Champions. The partnership seeks to recruit 100 women to support WHO in improving people’s health and well-being in the region, while also promoting gender equality on the continent.
