Another priority is to preserve the God-given beauty of my country and the wild places of Pakistan, he said.

Pakistan is the 8th-most affected country when it comes to climate change and the government has ambitious plans to make the country more climate-resilient.

He talked about the successful campaign to plant a billion trees in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. Now, there are plans to plant 10 billion trees.

e went on talk about the economy: Pakistan can not grow its economy without peace and stability, he said, referring to armed militias and previous conflicts.

We have gone through a very tough economic period and people are hurting, he said. Now we hope to return to growth.

The geopolitical situation

Imran Khan was asked by Børge Brende about escalating tensions in the Middle East.

"The worse thing that could happen is if there is a conflict between Iran, the US and its allies. It will be a disaster - it will cause poverty in the world - and God knows how long it may go on. In my opinion it would be insanity, he said.

I spoke to President Trump yesterday and I told him it would be a disaster for us if this war starts.

I do not understand why countries resolve their differences through military conflicts. The moment you start a military conflict - you don’t know where it will finish. It has unintended consequences, he said.

A strategic location

Advantages of Pakistan include its youthful population - but they have been neglected. Now we have started a programme of skill development, he said.
