During a virtual introductory round, participants took part in a quick poll of issues they consider to be most important for the UNEA-5.2 agenda, with plastic pollution garnering the highest number of votes.

Between the February 7 – 10, 2022, the Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF) 2022 will be held, self-organized by the Major Group Facilitating Committee (MGFC), the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF). It will be followed by the Open-Ended CPR on 21-25 February 2022, UNEA 5.2 on 28 February to 2 March 2022 and by the UNEP@50 Special Session on 3 to 4 March 2022; . The GMGSF will allow Major Groups and Stakeholders (MGS) to review, share and organize their input towards these meetings. In light of the COVID pandemic, the GMGSF 2022 will be held as an online meeting, with access for accredited and non-accredited organizations.

The 19th session of the Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF-19) of the resumed fifth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2) opened on Monday afternoon with introductory remarks by the three Co-Chairs of the Major Groups Facilitation Committee: Ingrid Rostad, NGO Major Group; Mohamed Abdelraouf, Science and Technology Major Group; and Carmen Capriles, Women’s Major Group.
