The New Urban Agenda, which has been translated into more than 30 languages, sets global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development, by looking at how cities and human settlements are planned, designed, financed, developed, governed, and managed to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals – particularly the ‘urban’ SDG 11.
Key mechanisms envisioned for implementing the New Urban Agenda include national urban policies; urban governance; integrated urban and territorial planning and design and effective financing frameworks.
UN-Habitat has produced The New Urban Agenda Illustrated handbook with clear definitions and practical examples to help all urban stakeholders including public civil servants, mayors, local government officials, architects, urban planners, NGO workers and volunteers, and employees of international organizations understand and implement the New Urban Agenda.
