Our purpose

We want to build the capability and culture of governments to practically deal with the complex problems they face, and to strengthen the community of practice around public innovation.

From bringing citizens into the policymaking process to experimenting with new ways to develop services, people are exploring the future practice of government. Our aim is to support them on this journey to change. We will:

Inspire action by sharing stories and practical experiences from public innovators across the world

Support governments to build their innovation capabilities and cultures by developing practical learning programmes

Build the field of public innovation by creating collaborative R&D projects to explore and test what works

Public innovation learning offers do exist, but it’s a complex landscape and we believe that many fall short of equipping public officials with what we call ‘innovation craft’ - the skills, mindset and culture that enable innovation.

As a collective, our shared aim therefore is to focus on practice-led, collaborative learning that focuses on innovation craft and helps governments create real change.

Why now?

Governments have pioneered innovation throughout history, and in the face of current challenges the demand for greater support on how to make strategic use of innovation approaches, develop skills and sustain a culture of innovation is growing.
