In 2021, 396 million people in the region were undernourished and an estimated 1.05 billion people suffered from moderate or severe food insecurity.

The year 2022 was deadly for members of the press. At least 67 journalists and media workers were killed during the year–the highest number since 2018 and an almost 50% increase from 2021, the Committee to Protect Journalists found. The rise was driven by a high number of journalist deaths covering the Ukraine war and a sharp rise in killings in Latin America.

Education Out Loud is the Global Partnership for Education’s (GPE) fund for advocacy and social accountability. It supports civil society to be active and influential actors in shaping education policy and implementation to meet the needs of communities, especially of marginalized people – and to ensure the right to quality education for all in line with SDG 4.

In September 2022, at the closing of its 27th session, the CRPD Committee announced the adoption of the Guidelines on Deinstitutionalization, including in emergencies (DI Guidelines), designed to complement General Comment No. 5 on Article 19 (Living independently and being included in the community) and the Guidelines on Article 14 (Liberty and security of person).
