London Climate Action Week (LCAW) is harnessing the power of London for global climate action. The annual event brings together the city's world-leading array of climate professionals and communities. Now in its fifth year, LCAW creates space for participants to come together and find global solutions to climate change.

The week-long event is for everyone, creating space for both those inside and outside the climate world to present London's action on climate change to a global audience.

We are all increasingly aware of the urgent need for climate action. Climate change is an existential threat, requiring us all to act. Climate change also presents a systemic challenge, requiring a ‘whole of society' response to work more closely together to unleash innovative solutions.

London plays a key role in the global climate debate as a world city and a major centre of financial and geopolitical expertise. Equality of opportunity in creating a clean economy is key to unlocking climate action between and within countries.

London is well-positioned to address the practicalities of accelerating global market growth and managing tensions emerging as the clean economy starts to scale up, competition grows, and major countries seek to limit geopolitical vulnerabilities.

With net zero by 2030 ambitions, London is also on its own journey towards becoming a green and inclusive city. LCAW welcomes a diversity of perspectives and experiences. We need to forge a just transition to a net-zero future by embracing diversity and tackling disadvantage and division.

LCAW embraces Londoners' various international heritages, connections, and experiences, which create a uniquely global experience. This can be seen in LCAW's culturally-rich events and initiatives, with impacts reaching far beyond London's geographic boundaries.

LCAW is all about creating an ambitious and lively climate cluster to tackle climate issues throughout the week and beyond.

LONDON CLIMATE ACTION WEEK 2023 FOCUS AND THEMES

In its fifth year, London Climate Action Week 2023 builds on the success of LCAW 2022 to grow the profile and impact of LCAW events, and position London as a global “go to” centre of climate expertise and innovation.

This year, London Climate Action Week 2023 aims to build further cooperation between key parts of the London climate ecosystem producing a working “London Climate Cluster” architecture which improves the global impact of London’s climate action networks into the future.

LCAW 2023 also aims to have greater visibility to, & participation from, a wider range of Londoners.

LCAW 2023 provides a global moment for together accelerating fair and inclusive climate transition.

Events at LCAW 2023 will be encouraged to focus on these four themes:

Theme 1: Accelerating the global clean economy in the context of continued energy security challenges and the growing competition for clean technology industries between major powers.

Theme 2: Delivering fair inclusive and just climate transitions for mitigating and adaptation both inside and between countries.

Theme 3: Expanding networks for Whole of Society Action in London and beyond with an emphasis on community-level action, across professional and cultural sectors.

Theme 4: Creating a greener London with and for Londoners in the context of London’s net zero by 2030 target and response to climate change.

Organising LCAW

The first LCAW launched in June 2019 with E3G behind it. E3G is a not-for-profit climate change think tank specialising in the political economy of climate change. E3G is committed to building the partnerships required to make London Climate Action Week a self-sustaining and vibrant annual festival of events to help drive climate action across London, the UK and internationally.
