The Inspire2Care model of Karuna Foundation, an NGO, currently being run in Ilam for last three years, was lauded as top 10 ‘Most Scalable Solutions’ from among the 400 entries for the award.
Karuna was awarded as the 10 most scalable solutions while it was also selected
as Innovative Practice on accessibility.
Karuna Director Deepak Sapkota said they received the awards at an event held in United Nations’ office in Vienna where officials discussed on the successful model that has already benefited over 5,000 people.
Zero Project and Ashoka Foundation announced the awards, Sapkota said.
Zero Project is an initiative of Essl Foundation that focuses on the rights of persons with disabilities globally. Ashoka is an international organization that promotes social entrepreneurship.
According to a Karuna press statement, Inspire2Care model aims at full
participation in society of children and adults with a disability in developing countries and a reduction of avoidable birth defects and childhood disabilities.
“The model, implemented in partnership with local government structure, focuses on self-reliance and the mobilisation of locally available resources, even before the start of the programme. This ensures that communities can continue Inspire2Care’s
activities on their own and with their own resources,” said Sapkota.
