The IMF’s dedicated climate work is very recent, but its structure, policies, conditions and economic analyses have had climate impacts since its founding. From exacerbating inequality to eroding fiscal space for climate investment, there is already a strong case historically for the practical limitations, internal contradictions, and inconsistency with a just transition of the IMF’s approach. What would a Paris Agreement aligned IMF look like?
