Asia is big, diverse, and complex – and so are its challenges. Our members meet those challenges through collaborations that pioneer solutions at scale. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us the cracks in the social impact landscape. The social investment sector has responded without flinching. Members have learnt to react to an unfolding crisis quickly, in the short term, and nurture systemic solutions, in the long term. Our members have established shared aims and pooled resources to meet the moment with imaginative action. “The Constellations Awards 2021” celebrate the ingenuity and effectiveness of our members. Inspire and motivate others to try projects like yours across Asia.

The projects we celebrate in the Constellations Awards are inspiring, but more importantly, they are practical. Demonstrate how you have harnessed the strengths of different actors, illuminate the ripples of positive impact you have triggered, share your game-changing point of view. Does your collaborative project have the potential to catalyse impact at scale by providing new means of accessing capital?

CATEGORIES

We need to find $1.5 trillion a year in investment to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, according to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). To explore what our AVPN members are doing to get us there, we have split the award categories based on the themes from the SDGs.

The three Constellations Award categories we have chosen reflect the spectrum of global social and environmental issues that the Constellations projects can rally around:

Social Equality and Inclusion

Covers initiatives where the primary impact areas include and are not limited to: Gender, Livelihood & Poverty Alleviation, Education, Employability, Financial Inclusion, Affordable Housing, Ageing, and Arts & Culture.

Climate Action and the Environment

Covers initiatives where the primary impact areas include and are not limited to: Agriculture, Climate Action, Environmental Security, Conservation, Energy, Water, Biodiversity, Plastics.

Health and Wellbeing

Covers initiatives where the primary impact areas include and are not limited to: Healthcare, Nutrition, Sanitation & Hygiene, Mental Health.

ELIGIBILITY

• Applications for recognition are open to teams that include at least ONE AVPN member
• Applicants are allowed to submit more than one entry
• Projects can be submitted as long as they have started, are in progress, or have been completed within the past 2 years
• Ongoing projects should have been running for at least a year at the point of submission
• The main activities of the projects should be located in the Asia Pacific

ELIGIBILITY REVIEW

Once all applications have been submitted, we will comb them to check they are complete and all our questions have been answered. Our AVPN team will review everything and contact your nominated contact if we find anything missing. All applications must be fully completed in order to be considered by the judges.
 

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Our judges will then review all complete submissions. They will evaluate based on the submissions’ potential to inspire real, positive, and bold transformation that is collaborative, actionable and scalable. They will give a numerical score against these criteria:

Strength of Collaboration (30%): We are looking for projects that draw on expertise from a number of sectors and demographic backgrounds. We are especially interested in projects where actors have co-created and engaged proactively. You will get extra points if you have worked with multiple actors within the public sector, private sector, and civil society. It’s good if those actors are from along supply chains or within sectors or geographies. The key is that you collaborated with them to integrate their views and perspectives.

Criteria

• How many stakeholders are involved in this initiative and how did each contribute their different strengths to achieve the project goals?
• How have you used networks to achieve the project goals?
• In what ways did collaborating benefit the project?

Impact Potential (30%): We are looking for projects that address one of the Asia Pacific’s most pressing problems. The project needs to include a coherent plan to drive change and achieve long-term impact.

Criteria

• Does the project have a clear theory of change framework?
• What immediate and short-term outcomes did the project achieve?

Transformative Potential & Innovation (20%): We are looking for projects that can demonstrate the use of new ideas, including novel approaches, practices, and technologies. These ideas have high transformative potential if you can show how they potentially disrupt an unsustainable and unjust equilibrium positively to solve global, regional or industry challenges. The project is game-changing and future-oriented.

Criteria

• How is the project game-changing?
• How does the project change the future?
• Please describe how the project uses novel and new ideas in approaches, practices, technologies, funding approaches or other culture-enhancing elements to solve the challenges at hand.

Growth Potential (20%): We want projects that can be replicated successfully in different regions or markets. Different enterprises should be able to implement the project and grow as more stakeholders join.

Criteria

• What factors make this project easily replicated in different markets or regions? Is there any intention to do so?
• Can the project be scaled up to allow other stakeholders to join?

MASTER JURY

An independent panel of judges with distinguished backgrounds will assess the entries following rigorous criteria. They commit to doing this with integrity, objectivity, impartiality, avoidance of conflict of interest, and transparency.

Where a judge or an assessor has a direct connection with an applicant organisation, they will excuse themselves from the assessment and evaluation of that organisation.

APPLICATION

2. Application should be submitted in English only and follow the requirements of the application form

3. The application is free of charge

4. Applicants must not submit any false documents or information and they must follow the requirements of the overview. If the provided information does not meet the requirements, AVPN reserves the right to decline the application. Should the investigation prove the information provided by any organisations to be false, they will be disqualified from the award.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD

The shortlist for the Constellations Awards 2021: People’s Choice Award will be announced in May 2021. Our jury of industry-leading professionals will narrow down the longlisted entries to about five entries per category.

Anyone will be able to vote for their favourite entries in our inaugural People’s Choice Award. The public will be able to choose one entry per category until voting closes.
 

WHAT’S NEXT

• Shortlist published & public vote goes live: 3 May 2021

• Public vote closes: 4 June 2021

• Announcement of People’s Choice Award winners: June 2021 (at AVPN Conference 2021)

• The winners will be ratified by our master jury, and they will be announced in June 2021 at the AVPN Conference 2021. We’ll be sharing more information about this soon.
