  • AVPN Chairperson and CEO opened the Conference with a rousing call to action for social investors reminding us of the need to define a “new normal” in the post-Covid-19 era. She stressed the importance of turning away from profit-maximisation, and rather, to leverage on collaborations and networks that maximise social impact.
  • Jacqueline Novogratz, Founder and CEO of Acumen, highlighted the need for a ‘Moral Revolution,’ a topic on which she’s based her new book. She points to pandemic as a catalyst for redefining success beyond wealth, fame and self-gratification and rather focusing on humanity and dignity for all.
  • Jacqueline Loh of MAS shared Singapore’s plans to take a leadership role in advancing sustainable finance and impact capital as a key part of an inclusive recovery. She highlights numerous examples of how the financial sector is stepping up to this challenge to “build back better”.

Session Description

The five-day AVPN Virtual Conference is a testament to the commitment that we are seeing across funders and resource providers around the world who continue to build an impactful and sustainable society despite uncertain and even vulnerable circumstances. Against the backdrop of COVID-19 and global unrest, the Chairperson and CEO of AVPN, Naina Subberwal Batra, seeks to not only reflect on key principles but also make a call to all social investors to start making decisions that will set the tone for decades to come and pave the way for a resilient ecosystem in Asia.

Collaborative action, therefore, is vital. We will converge perspectives from influential public and private sector leaders on how we can look ahead. We invite Jacqueline Novogratz, Founder and CEO of Acumen, who has embarked on a life-long journey to tackle poverty and injustice in our world. Her recently published book Manifesto for a Moral Revolution: Practices to Build a Better World has been featured as one of the top leadership books to read, and is a handbook for all 21st century leaders.

We will seal the morning with a keynote address from Jacqueline Loh, Deputy Managing Director for Markets & Development at the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She will share with us the perspective from Singapore’s regulators, the opportunities for sustainable finance, and how local and regional policy measures can catalyse innovative capital movement in the post-COVID-19 new world.
