Dear Colleagues, champions of volunteering, supporters and friends,

We are pleased to invite you to the side event “Volunteering as a Transformative Strategy for the Decade of Action”  held on March 22, 2-3:30 pm (Bangkok time) as part of the 8th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development under the theme of “Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia and the Pacific”.

Through this event that UNV is co-organizing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Ministry of Information and Social Development of Kazakhstan, we would like showcase the broad diversity of volunteering practices, approaches and models that can be thoroughly assessed as policy options to transform and fill SDG gaps and challenges at the regional, national and local levels, including through their integration into national, sectoral and local strategies and plans. Selected Member States from Asia and the Pacific will share their experiences of engagement of volunteers during the pandemic, recovery phase and in the implementation of the SDGs. Promising volunteer groups whose data collection efforts have saved lives during pandemic or influenced some changes will also join the discussion.

In addition, UNV will present recent data and tools on volunteerism that could be used by SDG stakeholders. The event will also amplify the voice of volunteers and call to embed the spirit of people’s ownership of the 2030 Agenda as a critical factor for its success in the Decade of Action. As the main expected outcome of the event we hope that collectively volunteerism could be recognized as transformative strategy in the aftermath of pandemic and accelerating implementation of the SDGs at the regional level and the APFSD Report.

We are asking you or kindly spread the word about this upcoming side event taking place online.

Participants should register at the link provided here or with the QR-Code on the invitation. Registered participants will receive the connection details and Agenda of the event.
