The Republic of Korea and P4G will unite Heads of State, CEOs and civil society leaders around a shared action agenda to mobilize investments for transformative partnerships delivering tangible SDG and climate action impact. It will highlight P4G’s strong and growing pipeline of more than 50 market-based partnerships and provide an opportunity for partnerships to scale their efforts.
This key moment based around the theme on an "Inclusive Green Recovery Towards Carbon Neutrality" will boost market-based partnerships and rally high-level political and private sector action to invest in P4G and scale these innovative solutions in P4G partner countries and beyond. The P4G Summit will be a stepping stone to COP26 in building back better and greener in this decade of action. It provides a global opportunity for countries to step up their ambitions and show the alignment of P4G partnerships with the global action agenda. The Summit is an opportunity for P4G to advance its role of bridging the gap between traditional and investment agendas to deliver scalable and replicable impact. This global moment will elevate the most prospective P4G partnerships in front of world leaders and business titans committed to building supportive frameworks and investing in impact.
The main Summit program will kick off on May 30 with an Opening Ceremony featuring rich cultural performances and the Leaders’ Session uniting more than 30 Heads of State and the leaders of international organizations to accelerate global efforts for a just climate transition. On May 31, the best of P4G’s partnerships and network will come together at the Thematic Sessions to scale our cutting-edge solutions. The Summit will conclude with the Leaders’ Dialogue on carbon neutrality through an inclusive green recovery, followed by the adoption of the Seoul Declaration. Register here to join the sessions.
WATER
The thematic session on water will focus on tangible solutions that can improve climate resilience and affordable clean water access. Shahriar Alam, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh will deliver keynote remarks on top priorities for scaling solutions in climate vulnerable countries such as Bangladesh. Vedika Bhandarkar, Chief Global Impact Officer, Water.org will share successful approaches for improving water and sanitation access that they are now replicating in P4G partner country Kenya. ENERGY
“A Greener Planet with Innovative Energy Solutions” will focus on catalyzing investments in innovative models aimed at decarbonizing the energy system and share insights from industry leaders such as Mads Nipper, CEO of Ørsted. The session will highlight the transformative models of P4G partnerships Africa GreenCo, Energise Africa and Energy Efficiency Alliance for Industry. These partnerships are accelerating energy transition solutions that improve regional electricity markets and empower small and medium solar enterprises. FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
At the Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems session, attendees will learn about emerging solutions like P4G partnership FLAWLESS that treats waste as an asset and aims to monetize food loss and waste reductions. The session will also delve into innovative business models such as the production of nutritious biscuits using local ingredients that can improve smallholder farmer livelihoods. Minister of Korea Forest Service Byeong-Am Choi will highlight how countries like Korea can support sustainable agriculture in developing countries through market demand. CITIES
The thematic session Partnership for Smart and Resilient Green Cities will advance solutions to mobilize e-mobility investment in Latin America and share replication opportunities for Africa and Asia. With keynote remarks from leaders such as Nigel Topping High Level Champion for Climate Action, COP26, the session will highlight the P4G Summit as a steppingstone to UNFCCC COP26 and showcase the P4G impact model to implement countries’ climate commitments. CIRCULAR ECONOMY
At the “Circular Economy Measures towards a Zero Waste Society” session, stakeholders will propose strategies for scaling innovative cross-sectoral solutions through partnerships developing replicable and investable approaches. Members of P4G’s global ecosystem like Amy Jadesimi, CEO of Deep Offshore Logistic Base will showcase how partnerships on sustainable industrial clusters are delivering circularity aligned with developing country priorities. The session will also emphasize opportunities to turn waste into an investable asset to enhance green growth, including through recycling in the garment manufacturing industry. GLOBAL OUTCOMES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
The P4G Seoul Summit will be a stepping-stone to COP26 and set the pace for the decade of action. The global moment comes on the heels of critical net zero commitments from countries like the Republic of Korea, China and Japan. With leadership from P4G country partners like Denmark, Netherlands, and Summit host, the Republic of Korea, the Summit will advance an ambitious climate agenda that encompasses inclusive economic resilience and green recovery. It will provide a global opportunity for countries to step up their climate ambitions and invest in scalable and replicable models of change that can drive green economic growth and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
2018 P4G COPENHAGEN SUMMIT HIGHLIGHTS
In 2018, Denmark hosted the inaugural P4G Summit in Copenhagen. This Summit set the precedent for an action-focused global moment that brought together five Heads of State, CEOs, leaders in sustainable development and more than 800 attendees to advance partnerships in the P4G Way. With a bold agenda, it introduced P4G to the world stage as a platform focused on translating innovative ideas into solutions making a tangible impact on the Sustainable Development Goals and climate action.
