10 international development priorities for the UK: 2017-2018 parliamentary briefing

Full Text Sharing

The world has made extraordinary development progress in recent decades, from reducing extreme poverty to providing more children with life-changing education than ever before. At the same time many global challenges remain. All governments, including the UK, have signed up to the global Sustainable Development Goals which require new levels of ambition and partnership to be achieved.

The UK has long been a global leader in eradicating poverty and countering shared threats to peace, security and prosperity. As the country negotiates its exit from the European Union, it is crucial that this leadership continues – and UK parliamentarians have a key role to play.

This briefing sets out 10 priority areas and makes concrete policy recommendations that MPs and peers can champion to ensure progress on the UK’s development, trade and international engagement objectives.
