New research on the “living wage” released today reveals that Congolese workers at the world’s largest industrial cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo who are labouring for the energy transition are being pushed further into poverty. Cobalt is considered an essential mineral in the lithium-ion batteries that power electric vehicles (EVs).
