What comes first, democracy or development? Is one indispensible to the other? It is hard to say as democracy’s dividends take long to bear fruits in the forms of tangible improvements in the lives of the citizens. Oftentimes democracy brings instability and chaos. But within this dichotomy, there is one element, freedom that is indisputably a key to endow the citizenry with dignity, self respect.
